EMR is a family-owned service agency founded in 1927, providing commercial kitchen equipment repairs, installation, and industrial services including marine industry support in the Baltimore region.

Our company actually had its start prior to 1927. There is, however, no record of the name used or its owners. We do know that in 1927 the company changed hands and changed its name to The Electric Motor Repair Company. Repairing electric motors was the only service offered at that time. Over the years, EMR has had several locations, all of them in Baltimore City. These were Frederick Street, Lombard Street, two different locations on Fallsway, and finally, in 1967, the current location at 700 East 25th Street. This location serves as the corporate headquarters and the Baltimore branch of the Commercial Service Division, as well as the location of our Industrial Division. The company that started, as a motor repair shop did not remain a motor repair shop. In the 40's, when the company moved to its first location on Fallsway, it began to dabble in Commercial and Industrial Wiring. In 1945, the portable household appliances department was started. This department repaired domestic blenders, mixers, toasters, irons, etc., along with radios, televisions, and clocks. They grew to be very dominant in the Baltimore market. At one point, it was the backbone of the company, taking in from 100 to 150 appliances a day for repair; 550 to 825 a week. In 1957, the company began to put emphasis on commercial cooking equipment. The company saw an opportunity to expand its services into this new market and hired a technician to work outside. He initially worked out of the Wiring department. This was the beginning of the Outside Services Division. also saw opportunities in another market: the Hydraulic/Pneumatic repair market. This repair service was started and nurtured within until it grew to a size that justified separating it as its own entity. In 1962, Baltimore Hydraulics, Inc. was spun off as a separate corporation from . Today, it remains a sister corporation of . Over the years, The Electric Motor Repair Company has evolved into other Divisions: the Industrial Division (formerly the Motor Repair Shop) still rewinds electric motors, but today it does much more. It sells new motors and motor drives. It has a machine shop capable of machining, balancing, and aligning motors and motor driven equipment in our shop and on the customers' premises. It has an outside troubleshooting department that handles in field electro-mechanical repairs, electronic repairs, vibration analysis, and trending analysis for motor and motor driven equipment. The Service Division repairs commercial cooking and bakery equipment in a four-state area. They have five locations to support this service and have over 50 service vehicles on the road. They are also the master distributors for over 120 manufacturers of food and bakery equipment parts. They repair electric, gas, steam, microwave, and refrigeration equipment. The company has grown from 5 employees in 1943 to over 150 employees in 1998. There are presently locations in Baltimore Maryland, Beltsville Maryland, Salisbury Maryland, Alexandria VA, Bear Delaware and Bensalem Pennsylvania (Metropolitan Philadelphia). Baltimore Hydraulics is in a separate facility in Baltimore. We are looking forward to many more years of opportunities and growth.
