The HoverProbe 2000, rigged with a Multi-Sonic drill, can retrieve 5-foot core samples down to 100 feet.
The Hoverprobe 2000 is a unique hovercraft fitted with a hi-tech METADRILL multi-sonic drill rig capable of taking core samples down to 100 feet whilst the craft is floating on shallow water or sitting on mudflats. It was custom-built for the U.S. Geological Survey in close collaboration with MPI Drilling of Picton, Ontario, Canada. This newly developed equipment opens up new vistas of exploration for geologists to collect data for the first time in areas of terrain previously inaccessable for core sampling.
