Founded in 1954, the Institute for Shipping Economics and Logistics (ISL) is a private, not-for-profit foundation and is one of the leading maritime research and consulting institutes in Europe. In 4 departments: + Logistical Systems; + Maritime Economy and Transport; + Information Logistics; and + Planning and Simulation Systems, the staff members work in interdisciplinary project teams, well equipped with modern instrumentation at practice-oriented research and development projects. Consulting and services in these 4 departments are offered to companies in the marine industry and maritime economy as well as for government, individual countries, and the European Commission. ISL possesses one of the world's largest Information Centre/Librarys for the maritime economy and also publishes statistical market analyses.
