Consultancy and Research Services in Aquaculture and Marine and Freshwater Environments Akvaplan-niva one of northern Europe's largest independent companies providing environmental and aquaculture consultancy. Besides consultancy related to planning, design and management of production facilities, our aquaculture department is heavily involved in the development of cultivation techniques for marine species. The marine, coastal and freshwater environmental departments of Akvaplan-niva conduct a variety of monitoring studies, impact assessments (EIA), risk analyses (ERA) and studies related to pollution and biodiversity. The main part of our environmental consultancy and research is carried out for the international oil and gas industry and for authorities and organisations with interests in the Arctic marine and freshwater regions. Akvaplan-niva's headquarters are in Tromsø, Norway with offices/representatives in France, Iceland, Spain, Russia, Scotland, Canada, Malaysia, Nigeria and Qatar.

Akvaplan-niva is an independent limited company, founded in 1984. The Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA) is main shareholder in Akvaplan-niva with a 90% share. Employees at Akvaplan-niva own most of the remaining shares. NIVA has been a shareholder in Akvaplan-niva since 1991 when also a strategic alliance between the two was formed. Akvaplan-niva represents NIVA with respect to environmental concerns in the north of Norway and the Arctic. Akvaplan-niva offers it services in close co-operations with subsidiary and other affiliated companies. The Akvaplan-niva group offers also services such as chemical analyses, geological surveying and aquaculture engineering. We have carried out an large number of aquaculture and environmental projects in Norway, Russia and other European countries and in Asia, the Middle-East and South America.
