About
E.A. GIBSON SHIPBROKERS LTD E.A.Gibson is one of the oldest and most respected names in shipbroking. The company was established in 1892 by Edward Aisbett Gibson, a friend and business associate of Newcastle shipowner, C.S. Hunting. In 1893 E.A. Gibson became exclusive broker for Hunting’s first tanker the 5,000 deadweight ‘Duffield’, following his involvement with the placing of the order back in 1889. With the world’s first tanker being built just three years earlier, E.A.Gibson must be considered one of the pioneers of tanker broking. From the earliest days Gibsons' broking expertise was diverse, encompassing not only oil transportation but also the timber, coal, coal tar products and general cargo trades. Today that diversification has grown to include the chartering of all major dry bulk carrier types, liquefied gas tankers and offshore support vessels; the provision of bunkers, consultancy, and the sale and purchase of all ship types and sizes. Into the Millennium: Peter Lilley, Managing Director Peter Lilley has spent all his working life in shipping, initially in the liner business before joining BP Shipping in 1972. During his time at BP he worked in the economic, operations and chartering departments before moving to E. A. Gibson in early 1980 to set-up the gas chartering department. Peter was appointed as a main board director of Gibsons in 1987 and succeeded Eric Shawyer as Managing Director of the Company in July 1998. He regularly lectures at the Cambridge Academy of Transport and the College of Petroleum Studies at Oxford, and participates in other presentations at company educational schemes. Peter is a Freeman of the City of London and a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Transport and the Baltic Exchange and a consultant on Bimco's Broker's Panel for Liquefied Gas.
