More than a century of dredging and hydraulic engineering activities, over one hundred years of ongoing contribution to the development of waterborne transport and hydraulic land reclamation worldwide, constitute a solid background for Dredging International. As a result, the company has been found among the top ranking international dredging companies for several decades. The Group employs more than 3000 persons on permanent basis and keeps on developing its core business - dredging and land reclamation - and at the same time extending and diversifying its range of hydraulic engineering and maritime construction activities so as to offer overall solutions to its clients. Dredging International has progressed continuously with technological improvements through in-house research and a dedicated workforce. The company’s capabilities have further expanded into such areas as : ·hydraulic works and civil engineering ·offshore pipeline trenching and backfilling ·landfall construction ·directional drilling for pipeline crossings ·underwater rock drilling and blasting .soil compaction ·soil investigation ·environmental techniques ·marine heavy lifting ·wreck removal eand salvage ·port construction and renovation The offshore activities (pipeline trenching and backfill, landfall construction, pipeline stabilization and protection, pre-sweeping, rock dumping, directional drilling, etc) of Dredging International are carried out through its wholly-owned subsidiary, TIDEWAY B.V., acting from Breda, The Netherlands. Tideway is able to draw equipment from associated companies. In addition, since early 1994, the company owns two powerful D.P. fall pipe vessels with a capacity of resp. 13,000 tons and 18.000 tons, able to perform accurate stone dumping to depths of over 600 m. Since 1991, all these activities have been gathered within the holding company D.E.M.E. (Dredging Environmental and Marine Engineering). The synergy between these fields of activities and the resulting overall and highly specialized approach has turned out to be a major asset in developing new business worldwide. The group has subsidiaries and branch offices in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, the U.K., Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, India, Pakistan, Uruguay and Nigeria. In addition, on 1st October 1996, Dredging International Asia Pacific (Pte) Ltd. (DIAP) was established in Singapore to co-ordinate the vast operations of the D.E.M.E.-Group in the entire Far East area. DIAP has become the driving force of the DEME-Group in this important area. DIAP acts, therefore, as the regional headquarters of the Group with the emphasis on local presence, multicultural and multidisciplinary operations. Since 1991, an average annual turnover on group level amounting to over 550 million US$ has been generated. The trend is clearly upward with an expected turnover for 2000 amounting to approximately 600 million US$. In operation for nearly 150 years, Dredging International has been involved in major hydraulic infrastructure projects world-wide. Recent achievements include, ·the widening and deepening of the Suez Canal, ·the extension of the airport of Sydney, Australia, ·Construction of the new deep sea ports of Laem Chabang and Map Ta Phut, ·the construction of artificial islands at sea in Hong Kong and Macau, ·the Zeepipe installation works including the landfall in Zeebrugge, Belgium, ·the Europipe Development Project of Statoil in Germany, ·the Gibraltar Gas Pipeline Crossing, ·the Transmediterranean Pipeline Crossing between Tunisia and Italy, ·the Interconnector gas pipeline cossing between Bacton and Zeebrugge ·major reclamation works in the suburbs of Guayaquil, Ecuador. ·several large-scale reclamation works in Pulau Indah, Port Klang, Malaysia, Present assignments include major dredging and hydraulic fill works in a number of European countries, Nigeria, Gabon, Ghana, Tunisia, Egypt, Singapore, Malaysia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Burma, Vietnam, Indonesia, The Philippines, Australia, Papua New Guinea, India, Argentina, Uruguay, Trinidad, Venezuela. To be mentioned in particular at present is the award to Dredging International, in joint venture, of the Phase 4 of Jurong Island development in Singapore. This contract involves the reclamation of 550 million m3 and dredging of 25 million m3 of sand and is to be executed in a period of 5 years. This is the third subsequent major assignment obtained by the D.E.M.E.-Group in the framework of the Jurong Island Development in Singapore since 1995. The D.E.M.E.-Group is committed to high-quality service founded on global presence and local partnership, an advanced versatile fleet and high-tech expertise. The company’s dredging fleet consists of some 75 main dredging units and an extensive range of auxiliary equipment. The Group has traditionally been at the forefront of new technological development, which is the result of permanent extensive research based on active feedback from field operations. The Group has been the actual trendsetter for the construction of a totally new generation of jumbo-trailers, with the construction, in 1994, of the 17,000 m3-capacity “Pearl River”. And it is followed by the 13,700 m3 capacity “Lange Wapper” and the 17,000 m3-capacity “Nile River”, in 1999. Two new trailers with 13,000 m3 and 5,000 m3 hopper capacity will be delivered in 2002. The Group of companies D.E.M.E stands for are ready to be part of the further development of infrastructure in general and of ports, waterways and land development worldwide with a strong commitment towards the basic principles of partnering. In doing so, the continuous development and application of new environmental techniques is D.E.M.E.’s primary concern.
