About

The main oil and petrochemical companies of the world are demanding customers both in respect of technical solutions and operating quality. Knutsen OAS Shipping meets these requirements and today operates one of the most sophisticated and modern fleets of purpose-built shuttle tankers, chemical carriers and product tankers world wide. Knutsen OAS Shipping is presently operating the largest fleet of purpose-built DP class shuttle tankers in the world. The strategy of our fleet has been based on the development of total projects from design to operation. The strategy has over the last ten years been implemented with a programme of twenty newbuildings with a total cost of one billion USD. The vessels are designed to meet the exact speci-fications of our charterers. After delivery all our vessels have been chartered to first class charterers., mainly oil companies. The modern fleet has in 2001 an average age of 6,5 years which is unique for any tanker fleet of this size. The oldest vessel in the fleet is from 1987. Knutsen OAS Shipping has extensive experience as operator of tankers for 80 years. The company is operating out of the city of Haugesund on the westcoast of Norway. Still today a major part of the crew and officers of our fleet is from the local area. All the shuttle tankers have 100% Norwegian crew while the product and chemical fleet has Norwegian top officers and Filipino crew. In addition we have an experienced onshore staff of 45 to handle projects and operation of the fleet. Safety and quality operation Behind the strategy of operating a modern fleet with highly qualified crew lies the aim of reducing any risk to the lowest possible level and provide high quality service to customers and partners. We are determined to incorporate safety into all aspects of vessel design and operation through Quality Management which satisfies the demands of our most safety conscious customers as well as meeting the requirements of national and international rules and regulations regarding safety and environmental protection. A socalled 'tandem-loading'at the Heidrun oilfield between the two DSL shuttle tankers m/t Hanne Knutsen and Jorunn Knutsen. Technically advanced fleet All vessels have high technical specifications including double bottom (1 exception) and double hull (three exceptions) as well as bow thrusters, variable pitch propeller and flap rudders i.e. both active and passive technical means to prevent oil pollution. In addition the product and chemical carriers have ICE class 1A. The shuttle tankers are purpose-built advanced tankers loading oil in open sea at the different offshore oil fields in the North Sea discharging in Continental and North European ports. The flexibility and cost efficiency of these vessels combined with their ability to operate in severe weather conditions during the winter months in the North Sea have turned this concept of loading and transportation into a success.
