The Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG, NSB for short, was founded in 1982. Since 1986 the company has been domiciled in Buxtehude on the edge of what we call "The Wet Triangle" between the rivers Elbe and Weser. Its proximity to the ports of Hamburg and Bremen / Bremerhaven has proved to be extremely benefical for the vessel management. Due to the committed efforts of a highly motivated team NSB has steadily grown over the years to become one of German shipping's largest managing owner companies. By september of 2001 the fleet had grown to 66 vessels which sail all over the world. The total deadweight is approximately 2.7 million t and container carrying capacity totals about 204.500 TEU. The ships are crewed by about 1.600 sailors and a further 110 men and women work on-shore in the administrative sector.
