Algoma Central Marine operates the Corporation's modern fleet of 23 dry-bulk cargo vessels. 14 of the dry-bulk ships are fitted with self-unloading gear enabling the vessel to discharge cargo without the aid of shore-based equipment. The remaining 9 dry bulk ships, used primarily in the grain and iron ore trades, unload by means of shore-based equipment. 20 of the dry-bulk vessels operate exclusively within the Great Lakes and the St. Lawrence Seaway; and 3 have extended operating limits into the Gulf of St. Lawrence and Eastern Seaboard of Canada. The dry-bulk vessels range in size from 650' (192m) to 730' (222.2m) in length with cargo capacities up to 35,000 m.t.
