Cochin Shipyard is the largest Shipbuilding and Ship repair yard in India. The yard is equipped with latest facilities for building as well as repair of all types of ships. We can build ships upto 1,10,000 DWT and can take up repair of ships upto 1,25,000 DWT capacity.
INTRODUCTION AND BRIEF HISTORY: Cochin Shipyard Ltd is the largest Shipbuilding and Shiprepair yard in the country, situated adjacent to the Port of Cochin in the west coast of India. Cochin city is well connected by air, rail and road.The yard was designed and constructed under technical collaboration with M/s M.H.I, Japan. Hence the yard has been built from the grass roots itself into a well laid out yard for the smooth and efficient flow of materials from the stockyard to the docks and quays. CSL has to its credit the construction of the largest vessel built in India, 92,500 DWT Crude Oil Tankers. Other vessels constructed include 75,000 DWT Bulk Carriers, Passenger Ships, 2,000 BHP Tug, 32 T BP Tractor Tugs, 35 T BP ASD Tugs, 45 T B P Tractor Tug, Luxury Tourist Launches, Barges, Marine Patrol Boats etc. There are about 2400 employees in the regular rolls of the Shipyard. The employees at all level are imparted training in state-of-the art techniques in shipbuilding and ship repair and their skills and managerial capabilities are constantly updated. The shipyard has two major divisions, one for Shipbuilding and the other for Shiprepair. SHIPREPAIR DIVISION: Ship repair operations were started at CSL under technical collaboration with M/s IHI, Japan in 1981. More than 750 ships and other marine vessels/structures have been successfully repaired here during the last 19 years. These include, beside Indian flag merchant vessels, INS Viraat India's prestigious Aircraft Carrier; JUR Sagar Shakti, JUR Sagar Samrat, JUR Sagar Vijay, MODU Sagar Bhushan and other Oil Rigs of ONGC; Maharshi Karve and Maharshi Dayanand of 1,23,450 DWT capacities and few foreign Flag vessels. The shiprepair team consists of qualified Marine Engineers, experienced Naval Architects, dedicated supervisors and skilled workmen The size of the repair dock is 270 x 45 x 12 M which can accommodate ships up to 1,25,000 DWT. The dock has high capacity discharge pumps to drain it in less than three hours. It is served by one crane of 40 T and two cranes of 10 T capacity. There are three quays of 280 M length with 15 T cranage, 208 M length with 10 T & 5 T cranage and 460 M length with 20 T cranage. The quays have adequate service lines of oxygen, acetylene, compressed air and power connections ISO CERTIFICATE: CSL has been approved by Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance Limited for ISO 9001 to the Quality Management System Standards
