The promoters have a stake of 99 per cent in the company. Formed in September, 1994, Sanmar Shipping Limited (SSL) is engaged in marine bulk transportation within India and beyond The company acquired its first vessel M V Sanmar Pioneer in February, 1995 The current fleet strength is eight, comprising five dry bulk carriers – four owned and one on a bareboat charter – and three product tankers – two owned and one on bareboat charter Three of the bulk carriers are in a pool with A/s Bulkhandling, Norway, while the other two are on period time charters with them, within the Torvald Klaveness Group All the bulk carriers trade in the most lucrative sectors Of the three product tankers, one is in a pool with A/s Dampskrbsselskabet Torm, Denmark, while the other two are on time charters with Indian Oil Corporation, operating essentially on Indian coastal waters The communication facilities of SSL are comparable with the best in the industry and all the vessels are fitted with SATCOM facilities The company aims to increase its fleet size as rapidly as possible consistent with good control and consolidation at each step The company simultaneously plans to meet the need for staff – both on board and at shore
