SMIT Harbour Towage: SMIT Harbour Towage's port and coastal tugs provide the vital link between ship and berth. A versatile fleet of over 150 vessels assists thousands of ships in the world's most prominent and busiest ports. Experienced crews man our tugs of up to 5,400 hp. As market leader, our fleet is an essential contributor to the life of the ports where we operate. Operations fully owned or in joint venture are located along the important shipping lanes around the globe. SMIT Harbour Towage operates in : - The Netherlands - Belgium - Canada - Panama - Mexico - Venezuela - Argentina - Malaysia - Singapore - Indonesia. Complementary port services like pilotage, water and bunker transports and linehandling are provided to our customers with the objective to complement certain customers' wishes to deliver a comprehensive package of port services under the responsibility of one quality operator. SMIT Terminals: SMIT is internationally recognised as a market leader in the specialised field of terminal management, terminal operations and the provision of associated services; a field that it has been active in since the early 1970's. Currently operational in over 25 countries, we continue to grow our business, utilising our extensive global infrastructure and technical expertise as a foundation for operations world-wide. We are specialists in rapidly establishing, commissioning and managing new terminals, often in remote locations, to the high international standards required by this industry. We offer important services to the offshore and onshore terminal markets and are able to provide our customers with a turnkey capability in the operation of offshore and onshore tanker terminals. Key long-term contracts are held in West and South Africa, as well as in the Middle East, South America, Black Sea and the Baltic. We are able to offer our Customers the total human resource package required to cover all aspects of Terminal Operations. We have in place an Indigenous Resource Training and Development Programme. The aim of this programme is twofold - to produce internationally qualified personnel and to empower previously disadvantaged locals. SMIT Salvage: The track record of SMIT Salvage is without parallel. As the world's most experienced and leading marine salvor, we maintain round-the-clock readiness for operations anywhere in the world. Salvage is the first line of defence against marine pollution when major casualties occur. No company has made a greater contribution to the development of salvage capability and thus to the protection of our environment than SMIT Salvage. Marine emergency response at this level requires the experience of dedicated salvage professionals, supported by specialised vessels and equipment. Our full range of engineering facilities and logistics support world-wide, ensures that we can operate effectively at remote locations. Rapidly changing demands and a new emphasis on the care of the environment have encouraged SMIT Salvage to offer special services in the area of environmental care. SMIT's in-house R&D Department developed a Remote Offloading System (ROLS) which enables the safe offloading of bunkers and cargo's (oil or chemicals) in wrecks at a depth of more than hundred metres. The integration of these services into one company offers clients the possibility of liaising with a sole contractor who can integrate all transport and installation activities. Through a SMIT joint venture a fleet of the world's most powerful ocean-going tugs is available for the heaviest towage assignments in the shipping, salvage and offshore industries. The Division Transport & Heavy Lift manages a fleet of 160 vessels. These vessels perform a wide variety of services: - SMIT Heavy Lift - SMIT Transport - Ocean Towage SMIT Heavy Lift: SMIT's extensive fleet of floating sheerlegs offers cost-effective and flexible solutions for heavy lift projects. SMIT's more than 15 sheerlegs are frequent visitors to ports, shipyards, offshore construction facilities and major civil projects. Our sheerlegs have a solid track record in the offshore and civil construction sector, lifting and positioning columns, decks, flare towers, bridges, tunnels, jetties, drilling towers and a wide variety of modules. The sheerlegs are equally at home when tackling the heavy lifts required for major civil construction projects with a 'marine content ', like bridge tunnels and jetties. They have played a major role in many prestigious bridge construction schemes, including the Millennium Bridge at Newcastle and the Great Baelt Fixed Link's East Bridge, one of the world's longest suspension bridges, in Denmark. SMIT Heavy Lift can identify and develop the optimum solution to any heavy lift requirement. Our specialised heavy lift engineering and marine personnel have the confidence which springs from vast experience and technical capabilities using new technology and advanced CAD systems. Civil Construction adds engineering and project management and offers combined solutions to its clients. We operate a substantial fleet of submersible and flat top barges. The large units are designed for the ocean transportation of project-specific cargos of up to 24,000 tonnes. They move dredgers, cranes, prefabricated civil and offshore structures and other heavy loads. Close co-operation with clients at the earliest stages of design and fabrication ensures that the vessels and equipment exactly match the demands of the transport task. SMIT's extensive fleet also includes custom built barges and tugs for river and estuary transport.
