About

Our shipyard has been in operation since 1977 and is family owned and operated. As we, the Jones family, manage the day to day running of the business, we have established a very high reputation in the shipping industry and we feel we are the leader in this industry for the Western Pacific region. Much of our business comes from Pacific Island Nation Vessels and we routinely drydock vessels from Papua New Guinea, Yap, Truk, the Marshall Islands, Pohnpei, Taiwan, Japan, Tahiti and the Solomon Islands. In 1980 the Company built a 3,000 tonne slipway and began servicing the shipping industry. In 1992 a 350 tonne floating drydock was purchased to "free up" the 3,000 tonne slipway which now caters exclusively for the larger ships. During our long history we have established a very good relationship with our employees, some of whom have been with us since the company was first established. In fact, this good relationship has allowed our shipyard to achieve a result in history of not having lost any time whatsoever due to Union problems. We operate 24 hours a day, six days a week to ensure a vessel has as short an amount of down-time as possible. We are fully aware that time in dry-dock for ship owners must be kept to the absolute minimum. Our labour rates are set at a flat rate, no extra charges are applied for overtime, other than work on Sundays. Our yard is situated 4 kilometres from the business centre of Cairns and 9 kilometres from the Cairns International Airport. There are over 100 International flights a week direct to Cairns from Singapore, Japan, Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Indonesia, Guam and New Zealand with international connections for all other ports through Brisbane, only two hours flying time south of our city.
