In 1998, Rolls-Royce was selected to design and supply the reactor plants for the Royal Navy's next generation of nuclear submarines, the Astute class. Two more submarines are planned. The commercial side of the business has a powerful track record in the offshore sector, having supplied over 450 UT-700 series service and support vessels since the mid-1970s. There are also strong market positions in cruise and passenger, cargo, tugs, workboats, coastal ferries and fishing. Comprehensive range of products and strong brands Rolls-Royce offers prime movers between 0.5 and 50 MW. The recently developed MT30 is the company's first gas turbine for both naval and commercial applications. In addition to gas turbines, the marine equipment portfolio features famous product names such as Bergen Diesels, Ulstein Aquamaster azimuth thrusters, Kamewa Ulstein propellers and tunnel thrusters, Kamewa water jets, Brown Brothers stabilisers, Rauma Brattvaag deck machinery, and UT-Design and NVC-Design.
