The law firm of Lyons, Skoufalos, Proios & Flood, LLP was formed in 1996. The firm has its principal office in New York, with branch offices in New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Kirk Lyons, Peter Skoufalos, George Proios, and Edward Flood are the founding partners. The firm’s goal is to apply over fifty years of collective experience towards a hands-on approach to cases, with an emphasis on close client contact. This approach promotes efficient handling of matters and, in turn, cost-effective resolutions. The firm has a diverse practice, but has always focused on its shipping clientele. We handle litigation, arbitration, and transactional work. On the maritime side of the practice, the firm is very active in claims, with particular emphasis in maritime arbitration, cargo claims, personal injury and wrongful death claims, enforcement of maritime liens, marine salvage, and hull and property damage. At the same time, we counsel our clients on contractual and corporate matters. We also monitor and report to our clients on legislative developments in the United States, not only in respect to oil pollution issues, but also in respect to labor, government cargoes and other regulatory issues effecting the maritime industry. On the commercial side of our practice, we handle both business disputes and business formations. We have represented clients with respect to the sale, purchase and finance of vessels, as well as other types of industrial equipment. We also represent one of the more prominent maritime dot.com companies. On a more specialized basis, we can assist our business clients on patent, trademark, and copyright matters. If our clients’ businesses entail real estate matters, we are able to represent them in transactions in the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut region. The firm’s partners are admitted to practice in the state and federal courts of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Louisiana and in several federal circuit courts of appeal, as well as the United States Supreme Court. We also have close and extensive contacts with legal correspondence in the U.S. and overseas. Our office is equipped for computerized legal research and litigation support services which enables us to manage matters efficiently.
