About
Through our years of experience, we offer a highly dedicated, personal service, that we can cater for all vessel management needs.
BHMS is well qualified to provide personalised, effective and quality ship management by combining these joint resources of knowledge and expertise through a dedicated and highly trained staff in the management of bulk carriers, container vessels, chemical carriers, gas carriers, coastels, self elevating platforms and floating storage units. MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR POLICY Our philosophy is preventative maintenance work from day one to protect the asset value, contain costs and minimise off-hire periods and stoppages. This is achieved by the crew overhauling and maintaining equipment whenever possible and only using specialist shore labour and technicians when necessary for specific pre-planned projects or when it is apparent this is the most cost effective solution. Riding squads are also employed whenever it is proven to be cost effective. Supervision of dry dockings, surveys, maintenance and repairs, alterations and renewals is vested with our qualified and experienced Ship Managers. Planned Maintenance is an integral element in BHMS's maintenance of a vessel to Owner's satisfaction, with computerised Stock Control and Planned Maintenance systems utilised. We present detailed dry docking and major repairs/modification tenders to yards selected and approved by Owners. We will analyse yard submissions and nominate suitable yards, taking into account the most convenient and cost-effective dates, coupled with climatic conditions, so as to ensure minimum downtime. We are able to benefit Owners directly from substantial Company negotiated discounts for the purchase and supply of parts. BHMS operates an open book policy relying solely on our competitive fees negotiated with each owner. We enrol vessels on lubricating oil and bunker quality analysis schemes as part of our loss prevention policy. We will work with any classification society who are members of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) and, if appropriate, will negotiate a favourable block fee. Vessels under our management will usually undergo a Technical Inspection at six monthly intervals and a Safety and Operational Audit every twelve months. OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT Effective management requires a combination of experience, skill, technology and excellent communications to ensure the most efficient utilisation of a multi-million dollar asset. BHMS possess such expertise and can provide the following services issuing of voyage instructions with guidance notes based on experience monitoring of vessel performance hire and freight statements (including laytime calculations) bunker strategy and procurement port agency assessment and evaluation voyage estimating and result post fixture, bunker disputes, cargo claims assisting with arbitrations MANNING We are able to provide crews of varying nationalities through sub-manning arrangements, although in the main we use British, Indian and Filipino crews. All personnel will be certified in accordance with STCW 95 requirements. We endeavour to provide personnel who have had experience in operating the type of tonnage taken into management. Care is taken in the selection, training and specific certification endorsement required for certain tonnage to ensure the crew is able to provide expertise and self-sustainable capability to contain costs rather than being dependent on often expensive shore technicians. We also strive to retain senior officers to maintain continuity. The manning level, to some extent, is determined by the flag state of registry but we also make our own assessment having regard to the type of vessel, nature of service she is deployed on, together with operational safety; bearing in mind limitation of hours legislation. INSURANCE We can arrange Hull and Machinery, Protection and Indemnity, Freight Demurrage and Defence Cover, War Risks, OPA 90 Guarantees, Loss of Hire Cover and many other types of insurances with reputable Underwriters and P & I Clubs, the latter being members of the International Group. In conjunction with our Average Adjuster (and Insurance Brokers) we can assist with General and Particular Averages on behalf of Owners. VESSEL REGISTRATION We can help an Owner in determining a suitable registry having regard to how the International Transport Federation (ITF) views a register. The management of Floating Storage Units (FSU) and Floating Production, Storage and Offloading vessels (FPSO) is a delicate balance between cost and performance. Blended with expertise and personalised care, under the direction of a dedicated FSU/FPSO Manager and back up team, BHMS has developed a formula to benefit both parties.
