The Wolfson Unit comprises a team of experienced, full time professional engineers, working within the University of Southampton. It has been providing independent technical consultancy services to the marine industry since 1968. The Unit has a unique background in model testing of small ships and yachts, and supplies towing and measuring equipment to test facilities around the world. Trials measurements are conducted for performance assessment, and for troubleshooting problems with powering, vibration, stability or structures. The Unit offers services in Ship Safety including stability investigations, expert witness, model testing, inclining experiments and stability booklets. It also has considerable experience in research and development of safety asseement methods and criteria for government agencies and other regulatory bodies. Software includes lines generation, intact and damage stability, onboard loading and damage, small craft structures, power prediction, propeller design and sailing yacht performance prediction.
