The American Sail Training Association is an international youth education, leadership development and maritime heritage preservation nonprofit organization which was founded in 1973 in Newport, RI. ASTA's mission is to encourage character building through sail training, promote sail training to the North American public and support education under sail. ASTA each year organizes the TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE(r) which is a series of tall ships races, rallies, cruises and port festivals in North America.
