About
The Standard Club was founded in 1885. In 1970 the Club moved its main operations to Bermuda and today insures approximately 40 million gross tons of shipping, representing a wide variety of shipping activity world-wide. The original Standard Club remained in London and today insures approximately one million gross tons of coastal and inland waterway shipping trading in Europe. In 1995 Standard Europe was developed, its principal purpose being to insure ships owned and operated by shipowners from certain European Union member states. In 1997 Standard Asia was founded in Singapore to combine the resources of the Standard Group with a regional service for owners domiciled in the Asia Pacific region. In addition to the Standard P&I Clubs, the Standard War Risks Club, founded in 1913, provides hull and war risks cover, principally for British Shipowners.
