Sovchart S.A. Geneva, has just celebrated its 25th anniversary. The company was established on 20 Oct 1975 as a branch office of Sovfracht Moscow to conduct all ship chartering, sale and purchase, shipbuilding and all other broking activities concerning ocean-going transport. The company was active in all areas of shipping especially the grain shipments to the former Soviet Union. Towards the end of the 80's the office activity slowed down dramatically, and the staff was reduced to only a few people. However on 6 September 1988 the shares of Sovchart S.A. were transferred to AKP Sovcomflot and Sovchart once again became an active player in the international shipping world specializing in chartering, sale and purchase and the development of new projects. Sovchart was entrusted with the commercial management of 4 chemical tankers and in 1991 with 4 new LPG carriers of 15'000 cbm. The fleet was expanded in 1991 and 1992, when Sovcomflot took delivery of a substantial fleet of New Buildings, which exceeded 3 million tons DWT. In the late 90's Sovcomflot, anxious to maintain a modern fleet ordered through Sovchart 8 new product carriers of 47'000 DWT. Sovcomflot's new president, Mr. D. Skarga, is continuing this policy and the company once again has a large order book of Product, Aframax and Suezmax tankers, which will be added to the fleet in the coming 3 years. Our team of 9 people has a long experience in crude oil, product, chemical and LPG tanker chartering, as well as in Sale and Purchase and dry cargo chartering. Today we are able to offer our clients a full range of services, including full shipmanagement through our sister company Unicom Cyprus, vessel chartering and project development.
