About
Amprobe is a United States-based company specializing in electrical test and measurement tools, including leak detectors, wire tracers, and clamp meters.
AMPROBE is an established leader in quality test equipment for professionals in the electrical, HVAC, construction, and maintenance markets. Amprobe manufactures primarily hand-held devices, which are the preferred choice of professionals for testing and measuring electrical properties in various field applications. Amprobe's feature-rich products have a reputation for high reliability at competitive prices. Primary products include clamp-on ammeters, multimeters (volt/amp/ohmmeters), circuit tracers, harmonic analyzers, ultrasonic leak detectors, and refrigerant recovery products (through the acquisition of Promax). All sales are made through distributors, and Amprobe nurtures and protects its distributor relationships. Amprobe advertises directly to consumers to create demand at the distributor level. The company performs primarily light assembly and calibration in its ISO 9000 certified plant in Miramar Florida; assembles certain products in Asia; and conducts research and development in Miramar Florida. Amprobe is moving beyond test equipment to become a world-class supplier of testing, monitoring, and problem-solving instruments. To achieve this goal, and its growth targets, Amprobe is accelerating new product development, pursuing software-smart products and solutions-oriented products, seeking acquisitions that provide access to new distribution channels and new markets, and relocating to Miramar Florida to provide for expansion and increase operating efficiency. These initiatives will enable the company to grow its top line and improve its margins. Amprobe's new product development efforts include updating traditional products, enhancing the features of existing products, and introducing new products. Known in the industry as the Clamp-on King, Amprobe is growing and gaining market share in this mature niche of the market. The company faces little competition in the wire tracer market and is poised to establish itself in the more promising refrigerant recycling and recovery market segment. In January 1995, Amprobe acquired Promax, a manufacturer of oil-less refrigerant recovery products. Oil-less recovery offers a number of performance advantages over competitive systems. This product line is a perfect fit for Amprobe; it is sold to the same end-users through the same distribution channels as the company's other products. Amprobe's move from supplying diagnostic tools to providing engineered solutions can be seen in the new line of harmonic analyzers. Harmonic analyzers detect harmonic distortion in electrical current, which can cause sub-optimal equipment performance. In addition to being able to detect harmonic distortion, Amprobe is researching devices that correct the distortion its instruments diagnose.
