HR Wallingford is an independent company that carries out research and consultancy in civil engineering hydraulics and the water environment worldwide. Established for over 50 years, we employ more than 200 engineers, scientists, mathematicians and support staff. Our predictive physical and computational model studies, desk studies and field data collection are backed by large-scale laboratory research. The UK Government, the European Commission and international funding agencies are amongst our major clients. Our staff are skilled in providing cost-effective and practical solutions to the problems experienced by engineers and managers working with the water environment. Long-term programmes of advanced research ensure that we remain at the forefront of technology and can advise our clients from a basis of up-to-date knowledge. Many of our staff are recognised international experts. HR Wallingford offers the optimum approach to each project by identifying its main elements and proposing the most suitable combination of field, model or desk studies. We can be involved at the design stage, to identify potential problem areas, or later in the life of a project to find a solution where problems have occurred; our aim is to complement the skills of our clients. We can also provide design, costing and risk assessment advice and offer our staff as expert witnesses. Through our close contact with other research organisations, universities and consultants, we are able to offer multi-disciplinary teams, which have the capability to provide a comprehensive answer to questions relating to the management and use of water. We cover the whole hydrological cycle from rainfall, through rivers, to the sea. Based on a 36 hectare site near Oxford, HR Wallingford has extensive international experience with offices in Hong Kong and Malaysia, and a network of agents around the world.
