OUR BIGGEST CUSTOMER IS OUR TOUGHEST. Jets that land on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers are tough on the flight deck's coating. They weigh over 30 tons and slam onto the flight deck at 170 M.P.H. During catapult takeoffs, the exhaust from their afterburners reaches 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. The most corrosive substances in the world spew onto the deck: jet fuel, Skydrol hydraulic fluid, grease, oil, and salt spray. The deck also has to withstand ultraviolet rays, terrible storms, extreme heat and cold, and the shock and abrasion of an F-14 Tomcat smashing into a tailhook landing.
