The Trinidad and Tobago National Petroleum Marketing Company is a state- owned company which began operations in August 1972. It was established when the state, at various times between 1972-1977, purchased the retail marketing assets of BP (Caribbean) Limited, ESSO Standard Oil, Shell and Texaco Trinidad Limited. Today, NP, with a network of 215 Service Stations and a staff of 590, is the sole marketer of petroleum fuels in Trinidad and Tobago. The Company is also involved in the following activities: Manufacture sale of a wide range of automotive industrial lubricants and greases. Sales of Motor Gasoline, Aviation fuels, Gas oil, and Marine fuels. Wholesaling of LPG and bituminous products. Marketing of a range of agro and industrial chemicals, and animal health products. In 1985, NP began its thrust into Caricom and Costa Rica. As part of this export initiative, NP in June 1991 commissioned its first overseas bulk storage facility at Rock-a-way in Dominica. Valued at over TT$6 million, the project includes NP's first service station outside of Trinidad and Tobago. The Company also markets directly in Caricom through warehouses in Barbados and Jamaica. The hub of NP's activities exists at its 22-acre bulk storage complex just outside the Capital City of Port-of-Spain. The Complex accommodates: NP House - the administrative headquarters of NP. The largest lubricating oil blending facility in the Caricom region which can supply the needs of the entire Caricom market. A modern grease - marketing facility. Major storage and delivery facilities for petroleum fuels. A 209-metre long jetty capable of simultaneously berthing up to (3) ocean- going vessels. A modern quality control laboratory capable of carrying out state-of-the-art used oil analyses.
