Since the development of the first commercial safety shield for pipe connections in 1958 by RAMCO® Manufacturing Co., Inc., there has been worldwide acceptance of safety shields on piping systems to prevent personnel injury and equipment damage due to a chemical sprayout. The effectiveness of RAMCO® Safety Shields has been demonstrated in thousands of installations in industrial manufacturing plants, government facilities and on naval and commercial ships. With the growing awareness of the importance of safety in the environment, RAMCO® Safety Shields are a natural fit in processes involving hazardous or toxic chemicals. In addition to their safety features, they permit cost reduction. Shields not only contribute to worker health by minimizing absenteeism due to accidents caused by contact with leaking chemicals but also control costs by eliminating the need for worker replacement training. With the use of safety shields to protect personnel from chemical sprayouts, stable health insurance rates can be maintained and workmen's compensation claims controlled. HOW RAMCO® SAFETY SHIELDS PROTECT... Safety shields prevent sprayouts by interposing an impregnable barrier between the chemical flowing through the piping system and the external environment. To provide this protection, RAMCO® Shields are manufactured in various materials that resist the hazardous or toxic chemicals commonly used in process industries at varying temperatures and pressures. By selecting the appropriate material for an application, virtually all situations can be safeguarded. To select the proper safety shield, it is necessary to be familiar with the physical characteristics of the special materials that are used in the manufacture of RAMCO® Safety Shields and to correlate this information with the chemical, temperature and pressure rating within the piping system. RAMCO® Safety Shields can be divided into three major groups: SPRA-GARD® Shields ECONO-GARD® Shields Metal Safety Shields Each group contains shields that are manufactured from different materials. Each type can be fabricated in any size to accommodate any piping system. While this selection is sufficient to handle most applications, special safety shields also can be customized on request. RAMCO® Safety Shields have been designed and manufactured with many essential quality characteristics. A detailed explanation of these quality features may be found in the RAMCO® SAFETY SHIELD MANUAL. A free copy is available on request. RAMCO® Safety Shields are manufactured for all pipe connections: Flanges Valves of all kinds Expansion Joints Flow Meters Hose Couplings Heat Exchangers Pressure Vessels Elbows Couplings Unions Tees Clamps Pumps Instruments Customized Connections
