NightWatch Industries was begun by Norman Dahl, commencing with the creation of several Omron PLC based tank monitoring systems for large Pacific Northwest yachts in 1992. The firm has now expanded its capabilities to include almost any type of vessel monitoring. The company places heavy emphasis on top quality hardware and a conservative design approach. A self-described “Silicon Valley dropout gone to sea”, Mr. Dahl’s electronic career began in development labs at Sylvania and IBM and culminated with his eventual departure to sail the Pacific. He has crossed the Atlantic under both sail and power and has held a 1600 tom Master’s License for many years. His background has provided an excellent insight into the demands of the yacht world and the technical skills need to meet those demands. He is a member of the Society of Nautical and Marine Engineers and the American Society of Naval Engineers. NIghtWatch is listed as a government vendor under the Federal Central Contractor Registration (CCR) database. Recent projects have included systems on new builds by Palmer Johnson and Intermarine Savannah and a refit on a 125 foot Abeking Rasmussen.

Nobeltec is the Marine Applications & Services divison of the Jeppesen organization, Denver, CO, USA, a pioneer and foremost supplier of aviation charts and navigation services. Nobeltec is the leading developer of PC-based marine navigation products. The company was established in 1993 by two ex-Microsoft engineers and avid boaters. Their goal was to produce a Windows based program to display electronic navigation charts and track vessel position with GPS. The company’s first product, Navtrek, was a huge success. Over the next few years, due to increasing popularity of PC’s sales took off. Soon after, Nobeltec broadened its product line by releasing Navtrek 97 and Navtrek Solo. Nobeltec merged with Nautical Software, Inc. in 1999. NSI produced the popular ChartView Series and the award-winning Tides & Currents program. Soon after, Nobeltec released Visual Navigation Suite 5.0 and Passport World Charts - - two of the most successful products in Nobeltec’s history.
