It was 50 years ago Liberia's maritime program opened its doors to the world's shipping community. Within no time that community responded quickly, and in three months the 29,000dwt tanker World Peace, a large vessel by the standards of her day, had become the first ocean going merchant vessel to fly Liberia's star and stripes. Those 50 years have seen the fleet grow until today it stands at being one of the largest registries in the world. Today's position has as its foundation the high standards set and maintained during those 50 years. Liberia has often led the world in introducing new standards of safety and in implementing new international codes and conventions, and the flag is recognized as being the Premier of the open registry. The registry has a reputation for quality, efficiency, safety, and service. Liberia also offers one of the most convenient, efficient, and tax effective offshore corporate registries in the world. Administration is being updated to become more efficient and legislation is being reviewed in our efforts to make Liberia still more attractive to the ship owner without losing sight of the high standards we have set. The registry has offices in Vienna Virginia, USA, New York, Piraeus Greece, Hong Kong, London, Monrovia, Zurich and Tokyo.

MISSION: To deliver a reliable, efficient and cost-effective network of Aids to Navigation for the benefit and safety of all Mariners. The Northern Lighthouse Board's principal concern is with safety: the safety of the mariner at sea; the safety of our own people employed in or around some of the world's most dangerous coastlines; and the safety of environment in which we, and those who come after us, must live and work. The Northern Lighthouse Board has long been at the forefront of navigational technology. The programme to automate all major lighthouses was successfully completed on 31 March 1998. The Board completed the conversion of all its statutory lit buoyage to solar power in 1997. Thereafter, an ongoing programme of modernisation and overhaul will continue well into the 21st Century. The Board has always prided itself on its efficiency and cost effectiveness. For the future, it aims to provide a reliable, low-maintenance and cost-effective network of Aids to Navigation, backed by a safe, efficient and professional support organisation. The joint General Lighthouse Authorities' policy is based on the continuing requirement for the foreseeable future for a base-level of traditional visual aids to navigation, in the form of lights, beacons and buoyage, but a decreasing reliance of these "traditional" aids to navigation and an increasing reliance on high-precision radio aids. The Joint GLAs' policy also provides a mechanism for the ongoing review of tasking and policies.

affiliated companies that recognized the need for consensus within the industry and the need for a united front in pursuing matters of mutual interest. In 1973, the Association was formally incorporated as a non-profit corporation. Today, OMSA directly represents the large majority of U.S. offshore marine transportation companies, as their principal spokesman delegated to pro-actively develop and/or to promote positions favorable to the industry in response to proposed legislation or other governmental actions, worldwide, which potentially could impact offshore operators and service companies. The Regular Member companies served by OMSA are engaged in various offshore marine activities including offshore towing and anchor handling, and the operation of offshore supply and utility service vessels, crewboats, offshore construction, diving support, pipelay, cargo and derrick barges, geophysical vessels, liftboats and other specialized offshore support vessels. Associate membership is open to companies which, while they do not own or operate marine equipment, do share common economic interests and provide professional services or sell equipment or supplies to OMSA's marine operators. This group includes shipyards, naval architects, surveyors, underwriters, vessel equipment manufacturers and distributors, suppliers of vessel components, supplies and services, financial institutions and CPA firms, among others. These companies play an extremely important and active role in support of the Association. Both classes of membership possess equal rights under the By-laws. While it is OMSA's intent to represent the common views of all members, and our Regular and Associate members generally work together closely toward goals rooted in common interest, each individual member, upon joining, reserves the right to express any view or policy that they may have contrary to those of the Association or a majority of its members.

P.D. Gram & Co. AS is a Norwegian privately owned company, whose main business is arranging and managing shipping and real estate investments. The firm was founded in 1982 by Peter D. Gram as a partnership and was transformed to a limited company (AS) in 1995. Since 1982, P.D. Gram & Co. AS and its owner has been involved in syndication of more than 35 vessels with an investment value of over USD 400 mill. Most of these investments have, until they have been sold, been managed commercially by P.D. Gram & Co. AS. The firm started its business by specializing in managing and arranging investments of car carriers, where the vessels were timechartered to the major operators. Subsequently, in the mid eighties, the firm expanded into the tanker sector. The car carrier market remains the primary area of interest, while on the tanker side focus is on specialized vessels like LPG tankers. In 1987 the firm started a real estate section, arranging and managing mainly office properties in Oslo. Real estate investments have subsequently been developed in the rapidly growing Polish market, where a separate organization has been established with partners. The investments in vessels are held by different investor groups organized by P.D. Gram & Co. AS in different jurisdictions. The management activities are primarily carried out from the main office located at Aker Brygge in the centre of Oslo. A sister company with the name of Gram Agencies (UK) Ltd. was formed in 1995 simultaneously with Mr. Gram taking up residence in London. This is a representative office to better maintain international financing and investment contacts.

P.O. Box 19406, Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam Ports, the seaports in and around the capital of the Netherlands, make it the number 5 of Europe’s continental top 11 maritime hubs. In the year 2000 has handled over 60 million tons of cargo. And despite having 700 years of tradition Amsterdam Ports is looking to the future. New and spacious business sites and terminals in its modern port area, the new Afrika harbor with additionally 275 hectares of land, the all weather terminal, the new Ceres container terminal with capacity of 1 million TEU and the new passenger terminal for cruise ships, these are all examples of new and promising developments in the area. Amsterdam Ports not only transships goods, it especially processes them – annually adding a total value of Euro 3,5 billion (US$ 4 billion) and employing around 38,000 people in port-related sectors. As a comparison: in Rotterdam a total transshipment of 300 million tons annually take place, with 70.000 people. In short, the Amsterdam Ports is where shipping, industry and (value added) logistics come together. In time, a few strong industrial clusters have developed like food, chemicals, automotive and logistics. These have therefore also been chosen as strategic sectors on which marketing-and-sales efforts will be focused.
