The Hong Kong Shippers' Council was established in 1967 and incorporated as a separate entity in June 1976. Its forerunner was the Freight Joint Committee formed by the Federation of Hong Kong Industries in 1961. The Hong Kong Shippers' Council evolved from this committee. The aims and objectives for the establishment of the Council are to protect and promote the interests of Hong Kong exports and importers, traders and manufacturers in matters relating to the transportation of merchandise by sea, land and air. It is active in governmental, regulatory, and technical fields throughout the world. IICL has been active in equipment quality issues, inspector certification, electronic commerce, technical publishing and environmental concerns since 1971. IICL membership engages in leasing marine cargo containers and chassis to ship operators and others on a broad international basis. Principally a shipowning company, ISN has also expanded into third party management for a small number of European and Asian owners. ISN technically manages a fleet of 50 owned vessels, which consist mainly of dry bulk and breakbulk vessels. The fleet consists of a different series of vessels of 23.000 DWT Bulk Carriers, 31.000 DWT Bulk Carriers, 17.800 DWT and 8,000 DWT Multi-purpose Tweendeckers, 37.000 DWT Lakers, as well as a number of smaller vessels, all trading on a worldwide scale.
