BOYD Steamship Corporation is the oldest and largest ships’ agency at the Panama Canal. Founded by William Y. Boyd, who was later joined by his brother, Robert J. Boyd, and General George W. Goethals, the famed builder of the Panama Canal. Goethals was an active partner in the company until his retirement in 1926. In 1919, in the city of Colon, the Boyds opened the first bonded warehouse, precursor of the now flourishing and international famous Colon Free Zone. During this period, the Boyd Corporation operateda fleet of shipstransporting cargoes throughout the Caribbean and down the coast of South America. During the Second World War, they operated some 40 oil tankers out of the Port of Balboa. Throughout the period, the Boyd organization continued their business as agents for vessels transiting the Panama Canal. Grangemouth is the main port of Scotland. Each year approximately 9 million tonnes of cargo are handled through the dock facilities. Of this, 1.5 million tonnes is dry cargo representing incoming raw materials for Scottish Industry and outgoing finished products. Grangemouth is ideally located at the head of the Forth Estuary in the heart of Central Scotland. It is immediately adjacent to the Scottish motorway network allowing rapid transit of goods to and from Grangemouth serving customers throughout Scotland and the North of England. Rail traffic may also be handled using the rail link to the Port. Stevedoring services are provided by the Company's highly experienced team of port operators. This group, numbering approximately 80 persons, can provide cargo handling services 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.
