Self taught artist Tony Fernandes began drawing and painting at an early age, the works of Stevenson, Melville and Conrad captured and fuelled his imagination. Honing his talent through the 70s + 80s he first came to international notice when the British Government presented his works as part of their official gift to the Australian Government during the bicentennial celebrations in 1988. Set artist and designer for Walt Disneys presentation of Treasure Island 1999 with Jack Palance, Patrick Bergen. Those sharp eyed will see cameo appearances by Fernandes as a pirate and merchant adventurer. With works appearing on cinema, television, magazines and books, the artist, seemingly oblivious to the critical praise it elicts divides his time between studio painting and travelling to far and distant ports researching, sketching and photographing. This body of work remains unique. Currently collaborating with noted author and naval historian Captain Richard Woodman MNI on a maritime series.
