Located at Lakin, W.Va., milepost 257.0 on the Ohio River near Pt. Pleasant, W.Va., on State Route 62 (across the river from AEP's Gavin generating station).
River Transportation transports approximately 25 million tons of coal annually to AEP generating stations on the Ohio and Kanawha rivers. In addition, the division delivers four to five million tons of coal and stone for outside customers.
River Transportation maintains a fleet of 15 towboats, 2 Harbor boats, and over 600 barges. It also operates two maintenance drydocks where it performs repair work for AEP barges and towboats as well as other customers marine equipment.
