In mid-2001,GATX Logistics was acquired by APL Logistics and GATX Logistics changed its name to APL Logistics. In addition, two other entities also changed theirs. GATX Freight Systems became APL Logistics Freight Systems. And GATX eLogistics Corp. became APL Direct Logistics. The benefits of GATX Logistics becoming part of APL Logistics are many. Our geographic reach is more substantial because of APL’s presence in the Asian markets. Our scope of services is broader because of the long list of services APL Logistics offers, such as Expedited Air Services to manage air shipments and International Intermodal Express (IIX) for moving less-than-container-load shipments. If you have any questions about the integration of GATX Logistics and APL Logistics, please visit us on the web at www.apllogistics.com. APL Logistics, Inc. is one of the largest asset-based providers of contract logistics services. It helps businesses manage their supply chain logistics through a variety of integrated services, 3,200 employees and a comprehensive network throughout the continental United States, Mexico, Canada, Central America and South America.

Background The British Shippers' Council is a strategic policy making arm of FTA. Its members comprise industry representatives from a cross section of businesses who require international freight transport, logistics, distribution and shipping services. The Freight Transport Association (FTA) is a leading UK trade association and serves industry as users of transport & distribution services by all modes. FTA's 11,500 member companies represent all sectors of UK industry and consign 70% of UK visible exports, 90% of all freight moved by rail and also operate nearly half of the UK fleet of commercial vehicles. Our Strength At the heart of FTA is its unrivalled knowledge of transport and distribution, shared between 360 staff operating out of five UK offices and Brussels. This knowledge resource is delivered through local, national and European representation together with a comprehensive range of commercial services. Our Objectives FTA's membership is a broad church of mostly freight service providers (primarily road freight) and users of freight services (i.e. shippers). The British Shippers' Council has traditionally focussed most of its attention and activities on the maritime and air freight services and on trade facilitation through customs and documentation. Policies are made which aim to provide the right conditions in which industry is able to take advantage of a wide range of competitive and efficient services. Such services would enable them to enhance rather than hinder their global supply chains and promote the competitiveness of their products in overseas markets. FTA's Rail Freight Council is a forum of both users and operators and UK track infrastructure owners - all of whom are FTA members. This Council is FTA's principal strategic policy making body for matters to do with rail freight, both domestic and European. Together with FTA's Road Freight Council, largely comprising freight vehicle operators, FTA seek to promote developments in the freight industry which benefit industry and make their supply chains more efficient.

The National Industrial Transportation League was formed in 1907 to represent the interests of shippers before government regulatory agencies. With the advent of deregulation and globalization, however, the League has evolved into a broad-based advocacy organization for freight transportation. Earlier this year, the membership adopted Vision 2020, a sweeping proposal to change the structure of the organization. Now all companies involved in freight transportation are eligible for full, voting membership in the League. The roles of carriers, shippers and intermediaries are increasingly blurred and intertwined, so the League membership has been expanded to allow for more cooperative efforts, because through the promotion of a safe, efficient freight transportation industry, the needs of shippers, and the entire economy, are best met. It is anticipated that the new organization will become the forum where issues of mutual interest will be discussed and new creative solutions will be formed to benefit the entire U.S. economy. The League also has added a membership category for Affiliates, which includes, individuals who are interested in matters connected with the shipment or receipt of commodities and/or the purchase of transportation services. To receive information on becoming a League member; getting a copy of the Annual Report; exhibiting at TransComp; advertising in League publications; ordering a list, labels, or diskette containing the names and addresses of League members and affiliates; or ordering the Rail Users' Manual, please contact the League at (703) 524-5011 or via e-mail at info@nitl.org.
