Aker Solutions Wins FEED Contract for Lithuanian CO2 Terminal

By MGN EditorialMarch 19, 2026 at 12:12 PM

Aker Solutions has been awarded a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for a new CO2 terminal in Lithuania, highlighting the growing focus on carbon capture and storage infrastructure.

Aker Solutions, the Norwegian engineering firm, has been awarded a front-end engineering and design (FEED) contract for a new CO2 terminal in Lithuania, according to an announcement from Offshore Energy. The terminal will be developed by Lithuanian liquefied natural gas (LNG) operator KN Energies and is part of the country's efforts to establish carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure. The project aims to capture and store CO2 emissions from industrial sources in the Baltic region. 'This contract marks an important milestone in Lithuania's journey towards a low-carbon future,' said Luis Araujo, CEO of Aker Solutions. 'We are proud to leverage our expertise in CCS technology to support this critical infrastructure project.' The FEED contract will see Aker Solutions provide engineering, procurement, and construction planning services for the new terminal. This includes developing the design, cost estimates, and project execution plan. Construction is expected to begin in 2024, with the terminal targeted for completion by 2026. The Lithuanian CO2 terminal project is part of a broader push across Europe to scale up carbon capture and storage capabilities. As countries work to meet ambitious emissions reduction goals, CCS is seen as a crucial technology to mitigate hard-to-abate industrial emissions. This contract win positions Aker Solutions as a leader in this emerging market.
