In a move to bolster Australia's domestic shipbuilding capabilities, Austal Defence Australia has announced a partnership with Damen Shipyards Group to construct Landing Ship Transport (LST) 100 vessels for the Australian Army. According to gCaptain, the contract was signed on Friday, February 20th. Under the agreement, Austal will leverage Damen's expertise in LST design and construction to support the local build of these versatile amphibious ships. 'This partnership with Damen will ensure we deliver a proven and capable vessel to the Australian Defence Force,' said Paddy Gregg, Austal's Chief Executive Officer. 'Damen's experience in LST design and construction, combined with Austal's shipbuilding capabilities, will result in an outstanding outcome for the Commonwealth.' The LST 100 is a multi-purpose amphibious ship capable of transporting troops, vehicles, and equipment. It will play a critical role in the Australian Army's sealift and amphibious operations. By collaborating with Damen, Austal aims to leverage global best practices to deliver these strategically important vessels to the Australian Defence Force. This announcement comes as the Australian government continues to prioritize sovereign shipbuilding capabilities to support the nation's maritime security and economic interests.
