Azule Energy Starts Production at New Angolan Offshore Project

By MGN EditorialFebruary 21, 2026 at 12:48 PM

Azule Energy, a joint venture between Eni and BP, has brought online three oil production wells off the coast of Angola, marking the start of full field operations.

In a significant milestone for Angola's offshore energy sector, Azule Energy - a joint venture between Italian energy major Eni and UK-based BP - has reached full field start-up by bringing online three oil production wells in Angolan waters. According to an announcement from Offshore Energy, the new production marks the first oil gushing out from Azule Energy's project off the coast of Angola. The company, which was formed in 2022 through the merger of Eni and BP's Angolan assets, is now producing crude from the Agogo, Ndungu and Bufalo fields located in Block 15/06. 'The start-up of production from the Agogo, Ndungu and Bufalo fields is an important milestone for Azule Energy and a testament to the strong partnership between Eni and BP in Angola,' said Azule Energy CEO Guido Brusco. 'It demonstrates our commitment to continue investing and growing our business in this key country for both companies.' The new production comes as Angola, Africa's second-largest oil producer, seeks to boost its crude output and attract fresh investment to its energy sector. Azule Energy's start-up aligns with the Angolan government's goals and underscores the country's ongoing efforts to revitalize its offshore oil and gas industry, according to industry analysts cited by The Maritime Executive. With this new project now online, Azule Energy is poised to play a significant role in Angola's energy future as the country works to reverse a steady decline in oil production over the past decade. The company's successful start-up also highlights the continued importance of offshore developments to Angola's economic growth and energy security.
