Bilbao Port Embraces E-Fuels with New Petronor Plant

The Port of Bilbao is set to become a hub for sustainable maritime fuels with the construction of a new e-fuels plant by Petronor, a subsidiary of Repsol.

According to Hellenic Shipping News, Elixabete Etxanobe, the Head of the Bizkaia Provincial Council, recently visited the plant site along with other local authorities, including Ivan Jimenez, the President of the Port of Bilbao. The visit underscores the strategic importance of this project for the region, as the port looks to position itself as a hub for sustainable maritime fuel solutions. 'The Petronor e-fuels plant is a significant investment that will contribute to the decarbonization of the shipping industry,' said Etxanobe. 'By leveraging the port's infrastructure and strategic location, this facility will play a crucial role in the transition towards a more environmentally-friendly maritime sector.' The e-fuels plant is part of a broader effort by the Port of Bilbao to embrace sustainable technologies and reduce its environmental impact.
