Chouest Expands into Decommissioning with CES Acquisition

By MGN EditorialMarch 23, 2026 at 11:47 PM

U.S. offshore player Chouest Group acquires Gulf of America contractor Champagne Energy Solutions, marking its first move into the decommissioning space.

In a strategic move to expand its offshore services, the Chouest Group has acquired Champagne Energy Solutions (CES), a Gulf of America contractor specializing in plug and abandonment (P&A) and offshore removal work. According to Splash247, the Louisiana-based Chouest Group said the deal marks the start of a wider push into the decommissioning market. The acquisition of CES represents Chouest's first foray into this growing segment of the offshore industry. 'This acquisition is an important step in Chouest's strategy to diversify our service offerings and capabilities,' said Chouest in a statement. 'CES brings valuable expertise in decommissioning and plug and abandonment work, which will allow us to better serve our customers in the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.' The decommissioning space has become increasingly important as aging offshore infrastructure requires removal and proper disposal. With this strategic move, Chouest is positioning itself to capitalize on the rising demand for decommissioning services in the years ahead. 'Chouest's strong track record in offshore operations and its extensive fleet make it an ideal partner to help grow our decommissioning business,' said CES founder Ricky Champagne. 'We look forward to combining our capabilities to deliver even greater value to our clients.' The financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. However, the move underscores Chouest's ambitions to diversify beyond its traditional offshore support vessel operations and expand into complementary segments of the maritime industry.
