CMA CGM Launches New Japan-Europe Service

By MGN EditorialFebruary 27, 2026 at 04:00 PM

French shipping giant CMA CGM is launching a new direct service linking Japan and South China to North Europe, offering improved transit times.

In a move to strengthen connectivity between Asia and Europe, CMA CGM has announced the launch of its new 'Ocean Rise Express' (OCR) service. This weekly direct service will link the world's third-largest economy, Japan, as well as South China, straight to North Europe. According to CMA CGM, the new OCR service will offer the best transit times and improved schedule reliability for shippers moving cargo between these key markets. The service will call at the ports of Yokohama, Kobe, Ningbo, and Rotterdam. 'This new service is a testament to CMA CGM's commitment to providing our customers with the most efficient and reliable shipping solutions,' said a company spokesperson. 'By offering this direct link between Japan and Europe, we are helping to facilitate trade and economic growth between these important regions.' The launch of the OCR service comes as container shipping lines continue to adapt their global networks to evolving trade patterns and customer demands. Hapag-Lloyd, another major global carrier, recently announced changes to its own service network, with chairman Michael Behrendt stepping back from his role due to health reasons. 'The maritime industry is constantly evolving, and carriers like CMA CGM need to be nimble in order to stay ahead of the curve,' said industry analyst Alex Jones of gCaptain. 'This new Japan-Europe service is an example of how the leading lines are working to optimize their networks and better serve shippers across key trade lanes.'
