CMA CGM Prepares for Challenging Year Ahead

By MGN EditorialMarch 6, 2026 at 10:04 PM

French shipping giant CMA CGM expects a decline in revenue and profits in 2025 as it navigates an uncertain market outlook.

CMA CGM, one of the world's largest container shipping companies, is bracing for a challenging year in 2023 after reporting a decline in revenue and profits for 2025, according to the Journal of Commerce. The French shipping giant said it would rely on the diversification of its activities, network flexibility, and financial strength to weather the uncertain outlook this year. CMA CGM's comments come amid broader concerns about the health of the global container shipping market, which has seen freight rates plummet from record highs reached during the COVID-19 pandemic. 'We are preparing for a challenging year in 2023,' CMA CGM said in a statement. 'We will rely on the diversification of our activities, the flexibility of our network, and our financial strength to weather this uncertain environment.' The company did not provide specific financial guidance for 2023, but noted that it expects revenue and profits to decline in 2025 compared to the record levels seen in recent years. CMA CGM reported revenue of $73.5 billion and net income of $18.2 billion in 2022. Industry analysts have warned that container shipping companies could face a difficult year ahead as demand softens and overcapacity issues resurface. The Journal of Commerce reports that CMA CGM's comments underscore the challenges facing the industry as it navigates a shifting market landscape.
