CMA Shipping Conference Moves to Houston

By MGN EditorialMarch 11, 2026 at 12:34 PM

The long-running CMA Shipping conference is relocating from Stamford, Connecticut to Houston, Texas starting in 2023.

In a significant move for the maritime industry, the CMA Shipping conference - one of the sector's most prominent annual gatherings - will be relocating from its longtime home in Stamford, Connecticut to Houston, Texas starting next year. According to a report from Splash247, the event, which was founded in the 1980s by the Connecticut Maritime Association and later taken over by event organizer Informa Markets, will make its debut in Houston in 2023. The move marks the first time the conference has been held outside of Stamford since its inception. 'CMA Shipping' has long been considered a must-attend event for maritime professionals, attracting a global audience of shipowners, charterers, brokers, financiers, and other industry stakeholders. The decision to shift the conference to Houston is seen as a strategic move to better serve the needs of the industry, given the city's prominence as a major hub for shipping, energy, and logistics. 'Houston is the energy capital of the world and a global center for the maritime industry,' said one industry source, speaking to The Maritime Executive. 'Moving the CMA Shipping conference there will allow it to tap into that ecosystem and reach a wider audience of key decision-makers.' The relocation also reflects broader shifts underway in the global maritime landscape, with traditional hubs like the U.S. Northeast facing increased competition from emerging centers of maritime activity. In recent years, the Gulf Coast region - anchored by ports like Houston, New Orleans, and Mobile - has seen significant growth in areas like energy exports, container traffic, and shipbuilding. 'This move signals that the maritime industry's center of gravity is shifting,' commented gCaptain. 'Houston's rise as a global maritime powerhouse is undeniable, and hosting an event like CMA Shipping is a major coup for the city.' For the organizers of CMA Shipping, the relocation represents an opportunity to reinvigorate the conference and attract new participants. 'We're excited to bring this premier industry event to a new location and build on its legacy of excellence,' said an Informa Markets spokesperson.
