Corpus Christi Becomes Second-Largest US LNG Export Project

By MGN EditorialFebruary 27, 2026 at 04:00 PM

The U.S. Energy Department has approved a 12% expansion in exports at Cheniere Energy's Corpus Christi LNG terminal, making it the second-largest LNG export facility in the United States.

In a significant development for the U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry, the Department of Energy has approved a 12% expansion in exports at Cheniere Energy's Corpus Christi LNG terminal. This expansion will increase the facility's total export capacity to 23.5 million metric tons per annum (MTPA), making it the second-largest LNG export project in the United States, according to Offshore Energy. The Corpus Christi LNG terminal, located in Texas, is a key component of the U.S. energy landscape. The facility's expansion approval comes as global demand for LNG continues to grow, driven by the need for cleaner energy sources and the ongoing energy transition. This move solidifies Corpus Christi's position as a major player in the international LNG market. "The approval of this expansion is a testament to the strong performance and operational excellence of the Corpus Christi facility," said Jack Fusco, Cheniere's Chairman and CEO, in a statement reported by The Maritime Executive. "We are proud to continue supporting the United States' role as a reliable supplier of LNG to the global market." The expansion project is expected to create additional jobs and economic opportunities in the region, further strengthening the Gulf Coast's position as a hub for energy production and exports. As the global energy landscape evolves, the Corpus Christi LNG terminal's increased capacity will play a crucial role in meeting the world's growing demand for cleaner, more sustainable energy sources.
