Offshore Energy Briefing: Dogger Bank C Scour Protection Underway and GTT Secures Wave of LNG Tank Design Orders
By MGN Editorial•July 20, 2026 at 06:00 PM
Fallpipe vessel Flintstone is set to begin rock installation at Dogger Bank C, while French containment specialist GTT reports a surge in tank design contracts spanning LNG carriers and a floating LNG unit.
## Offshore Energy Briefing: Dogger Bank C Progress and GTT Order Surge
### Flintstone Mobilises for Dogger Bank C Scour Protection
Fallpipe vessel (FPV) Flintstone is preparing to commence rock installation operations at the Dogger Bank C offshore wind project, according to Offshore Energy. The vessel will carry out scour protection work, a critical phase in the construction of offshore wind foundations that guards against seabed erosion caused by tidal currents and wave action around monopile and jacket structures.
Dogger Bank C is the third and final phase of the Dogger Bank Wind Farm, located approximately 130 kilometres off the northeast coast of England. When fully operational, the combined Dogger Bank development — comprising phases A, B, and C — is set to become the world's largest offshore wind farm, with a total installed capacity of up to 3.6 GW. The scour protection milestone signals continued forward momentum on the project as the industry watches Dogger Bank's phased completion closely.
Scour protection installation is typically one of the final marine civil engineering steps before turbine installation can proceed, making Flintstone's mobilisation a meaningful indicator of construction progress on phase C.

### GTT Reports Surge in LNG Tank Design Orders
In the LNG sector, French technological containment specialist Gaztransport & Technigaz (GTT) has announced a significant uptick in new business, securing multiple tank design contracts for LNG carriers (LNGCs) as well as a floating LNG (FLNG) unit, Offshore Energy reports.
GTT, whose membrane containment systems are widely regarded as the industry standard for LNG vessel design, has seen robust demand as shipowners and energy companies continue to invest in LNG infrastructure amid sustained global appetite for the fuel. The addition of an FLNG unit to GTT's order book is particularly notable, as floating liquefaction assets represent some of the most technically complex and capital-intensive projects in the offshore energy sector.
The order wave reflects broader market trends: LNG's role as a transition fuel continues to drive newbuilding activity at major shipyards, particularly in South Korea, while the development of new upstream gas fields is sustaining interest in FLNG solutions that can monetise stranded or remote reserves without the need for onshore processing infrastructure.
GTT's technology is licensed to shipyards globally, meaning these design orders are likely to translate into construction contracts at yards in Korea and China in the near term.
