Einride Eyes Fleet of 1,500 Autonomous Trucks by 2028 Through Tesla and DAF Partnerships
By MGN Editorial•August 21, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Swedish autonomous freight operator Einride is accelerating its growth strategy through partnerships with Tesla and DAF, targeting a fleet of 1,500 trucks by 2028 as revenues climb sharply.
## Einride Targets 1,500-Truck Fleet by 2028 with Tesla and DAF Deals
Swedish autonomous and electric freight technology company Einride is pressing ahead with an ambitious expansion plan, aiming to operate a fleet of 1,500 trucks by 2028 through strategic partnerships with electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla and commercial vehicle maker DAF, according to FreightWaves.
The company reported a 26% rise in revenue to $27 million in the first half of the current fiscal year, a figure that underscores growing commercial traction for its technology-driven freight model. Management has projected even stronger momentum in the second half, forecasting revenue growth of between 60% and 73% as Einride scales operations through its partner truck programme.
### Partner-Led Scaling Strategy
Rather than owning and operating its entire fleet outright, Einride's growth model leans heavily on partner trucks — vehicles operated by third-party carriers running on Einride's software and operational platform. This asset-light approach allows the company to expand capacity more rapidly while managing capital expenditure, a strategy increasingly common among technology-first logistics operators seeking to scale without the balance sheet burden of full fleet ownership.
The deals with Tesla and DAF are central to this strategy. Tesla's electric Semi trucks and DAF's commercial vehicle lineup provide Einride with access to proven, commercially available hardware, while the company focuses on the autonomous and remote-operations software layer that differentiates its offering.
### Broader Freight Industry Context
Einride's expansion comes at a time of heightened interest in autonomous and electric freight solutions across the logistics sector. Shippers and carriers alike are under pressure to decarbonise supply chains and address persistent driver shortages, making autonomous and electric freight platforms increasingly attractive propositions.
While Einride's primary operations are road-based, the company's growth trajectory is of direct relevance to the broader freight and logistics ecosystem, including intermodal operators and port-side drayage providers who increasingly interface with electric and autonomous trucking solutions at terminal gates.
The company's ability to sustain its projected second-half growth rate will be closely watched by investors and industry observers as a barometer of commercial readiness for autonomous freight at scale.
