Gotion Leads Launch of Europe-Africa Electric Freight Corridor
By MGN Editorial•April 8, 2026 at 01:02 PM
Gotion, Green Power Morocco, and Chery Heavy Trucks have signed an agreement to establish an electric logistics corridor for heavy-duty vehicles spanning Europe and Africa, marking a significant shift toward low-carbon transcontinental freight transport.
A new model for sustainable, long-haul freight movement across continents is taking shape with the launch of the European-African Electric Transport Corridor, unveiled in Rabat, Morocco on April 7, 2026.
Gotion, a leading energy technology company, has partnered with Green Power Morocco (GPM) and Chery Heavy Trucks to develop the logistics corridor, which aims to establish infrastructure and operational frameworks for electric heavy-duty vehicles moving goods between Europe and Africa.
The initiative represents a significant step toward decarbonizing transcontinental freight transport, one of the maritime and logistics industry's most carbon-intensive segments. By establishing a dedicated corridor with appropriate charging infrastructure and operational support, the partnership addresses a critical gap in sustainable cross-continental logistics capabilities.
The timing aligns with increasing regulatory pressure on freight operators to reduce emissions. The European Union's sustainability targets and growing demand from international shippers for lower-carbon logistics options have created momentum for such initiatives. The establishment of a Morocco-based hub provides strategic geographic positioning for goods movement between African markets and European ports and distribution centers.
The agreement includes commitments to develop charging infrastructure, establish operational standards for electric heavy-duty vehicle deployment, and create logistics coordination mechanisms to optimize freight movement along the corridor. Green Power Morocco brings local market expertise and infrastructure assets, while Chery Heavy Trucks contributes vehicle technology and operational logistics experience.
Industry observers note that successful execution will require coordination with port authorities, border agencies, and logistics operators across multiple jurisdictions. The corridor's success could serve as a model for similar initiatives in other transcontinental trade routes.
