Hapag-Lloyd Expands Intra-Asia Network Through Zim Partnership

By MGN EditorialFebruary 21, 2026 at 12:48 PM

Hapag-Lloyd announces plans to grow its intra-Asia footprint by leveraging Zim's Gold Star Line network of 20 China-centric liner services.

In a move to strengthen its presence in the fast-growing intra-Asia trade, German shipping giant Hapag-Lloyd has announced a partnership with Zim's Gold Star Line. According to the *Journal of Commerce*, the agreement will allow Hapag-Lloyd to expand its regional network by tapping into Gold Star's fleet of 40 owned and chartered vessels totaling 100,000 TEUs. Gold Star Line operates 20 China-centric liner services serving key markets across Asia, India, and South Africa. This extensive regional network will provide Hapag-Lloyd with new connectivity and service options to meet rising demand for intra-Asia container shipping. 'This partnership with Gold Star Line is an important step for us to further strengthen our position in the intra-Asia trade,' said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd. 'It will allow us to offer our customers an even more comprehensive network and service portfolio in this fast-growing region.' The move comes as carriers look to capitalize on the resilient intra-Asia trade, which has continued to see strong volumes even as other global trade lanes have softened. Hapag-Lloyd's partnership with Zim's Gold Star Line is the latest example of how major container lines are seeking to expand their regional footprint through strategic alliances and acquisitions.
