Iran Continues Oil Exports Through Strait of Hormuz Amid Conflict

By MGN EditorialMarch 13, 2026 at 01:54 PM

Despite ongoing tensions, Iran has maintained significant oil exports to China through the critical Strait of Hormuz waterway.

According to Hellenic Shipping News, Iran has continued to send large amounts of crude oil via the Strait of Hormuz to China even as the war between the U.S., Israel, and Iran has jeopardized broader supplies through the strategic chokepoint. Iran has reportedly sent at least 11.7 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz since the war began. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial global energy chokepoint, with an estimated 20% of the world's oil supply passing through the narrow waterway. The ongoing conflict in the region has raised concerns about potential disruptions to oil shipments, but Iran appears to have maintained a steady flow of exports to its largest customer, China. This development comes as the maritime industry grapples with the challenges posed by the regional tensions, including increased risks to seafarer safety. In response, maritime charity Stella Maris has introduced specialized safety kits to help protect crews calling at Ukrainian ports from the threat of missile and drone attacks. The maritime industry is also navigating new regulatory frameworks, such as the FuelEU Maritime initiative. In this context, Bureau Veritas has approved BAR Technologies' calculations of available effective power for its WindWings technology, which can support compliance with the upcoming regulations.
