Italian Wine Ambassadors Grow Worldwide, Boosting Maritime Trade

By MGN EditorialMarch 5, 2026 at 10:45 AM

The Vinitaly International Academy's flagship Italian Wine Ambassador course is expanding its global reach, with 464 certified ambassadors worldwide promoting Italian wines and maritime trade.

The maritime industry is closely tied to the global wine trade, and a key program is helping to strengthen those connections. The 34th edition of the Vinitaly International Academy's flagship Italian Wine Ambassador course is set to take place in Verona, Italy from April 15-19, organized by Veronafiere in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency (ITA). According to the announcement from PR Newswire, the program has now certified 464 Italian Wine Ambassadors worldwide, a significant milestone that is boosting maritime trade and the global profile of Italian wines. The course provides in-depth training on Italy's diverse wine regions, grape varieties, and production methods, equipping participants to become certified experts and advocates for Italian vintages. 'The Vinitaly International Academy program is the gold standard for Italian wine education and certification,' said Maria Grazia Davoli, Director of the ITA office in New York. 'These ambassadors play a crucial role in promoting Italy's world-class wines and building relationships that drive maritime trade and logistics.' The course attracts wine professionals, sommeliers, and others from around the world, who then return to their home markets and distribution channels as certified experts. This helps to raise awareness and appreciation for Italian wines, generating increased demand that is fulfilled through maritime shipping and supply chains. 'Italy is one of the world's top wine producers and exporters, so the work of these ambassadors is vital for connecting Italian wineries with global consumers and trade partners,' added an industry analyst. 'Their expertise helps to navigate the complexities of maritime logistics, customs, and distribution to ensure Italian wines reach markets worldwide.' The upcoming Verona program is expected to add dozens more certified ambassadors to the growing global network, further strengthening the ties between Italy's wine industry and the international maritime trade that supports it.
