MacGregor has been selected to provide cargo access and deck machinery for four new hybrid-electric ferries being built for BC Ferries' fleet renewal program.
In a significant contract win, MacGregor has been chosen to supply cargo access solutions and deck machinery for four new major vessels that are part of BC Ferries' historic fleet renewal plan. These next-generation, diesel-battery hybrid, all-electric ready vessels will be constructed at the China Merchants Industry (CMI) Weihai Shipyard Co.
According to the announcement from Hellenic Shipping News, the MacGregor equipment will enable efficient cargo loading and unloading operations on the new ferries. This includes the supply of stern and side ramps, hoistable decks, and other deck machinery. The vessels are designed to reduce emissions and fuel consumption, supporting BC Ferries' sustainability goals.
'We are proud to have been selected by BC Ferries to provide our market-leading cargo access solutions and deck machinery for these important new vessels,' said Magnus Sjöberg, Senior Vice President, Merchant Solutions Division, MacGregor. 'This contract reflects our strong capabilities in delivering innovative, energy-efficient solutions that enhance the performance of ferry and ro-ro operations.'
The fleet renewal program is a critical initiative for BC Ferries as it works to modernize its aging vessel fleet and transition to more environmentally-friendly propulsion technologies. The selection of MacGregor's proven cargo handling systems underscores the company's reputation as a trusted partner for ferry operators worldwide.
