In a move to mark its 70th year in business, China's Maple Leaf Shipping has purchased its largest vessel to date - a 206,300 DWT newcastlemax bulk carrier. According to broker sources cited by Splash247, the privately-owned shipping company is behind the acquisition of the 2005-built vessel previously known as the Cape Merlin, which has now been renamed ES Bri. The newcastlemax purchase represents a significant milestone for Maple Leaf Shipping, which has steadily grown its fleet over the past seven decades. "This acquisition demonstrates the company's continued commitment to fleet expansion and modernization as it enters its eighth decade of operations," said industry analyst James Thompson. Maple Leaf Shipping was founded in 1952 and has established itself as a major player in the Chinese dry bulk market.
