By MGN Editorial•March 6, 2026 at 11:42 AM
A roundup of recent news in the maritime industry, including offshore surveys, ship recycling regulations, and new shipbuilding orders.
## Offshore Seismic Surveys Ramp Up for Summer Season
Oslo-listed seismic data specialist TGS has announced a new acquisition campaign for its Ramform Vanguard seismic vessel during the upcoming European summer season. According to Splash247, the campaign is scheduled to begin in mid-March with an oil and gas site survey, followed by two offshore wind surveys.
'This campaign demonstrates TGS' commitment to supporting the energy transition through investments in offshore wind while also continuing to serve the needs of the oil and gas industry,' said Kristian Johansen, CEO of TGS.
## Calls for EU Approval of Indian Ship Recycling Yards
The world's leading ship recycling nation, India, does not currently have a single ship recycling facility approved by the European Union, reports Seatrade Maritime. This has prompted calls from leading cash buyer GMS for the EU to recognize more Indian yards as compliant with the EU Ship Recycling Regulation.
'India recycles over 70% of the world's ships, yet not a single yard in the country is approved by the EU,' said Anil Sharma, CEO of GMS. 'This needs to change if the EU is serious about promoting sustainable ship recycling globally.'
## New Boxship Orders for Chinese Shipyard
CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding in China has secured orders for four containerships from Korean owners Namsung and Dongyoung Shipping, reports Seatrade Maritime. The orders demonstrate the Chinese yard's growing footprint in the East Asian shipbuilding market.
'This contract further solidifies our position as a leading provider of high-quality containerships to the global market,' said a spokesperson for Huangpu Wenchong.
